We're inching closer and closer to my sisters move out date, and it makes me a little sad/nostalgic. I'm still really excited for her though, and I can't really be that sad because while she is technically moving away, she'll only be about 45 minutes away from me.
It's getting closer and closer to August. Meaning that not only is my sister headed off to experience the best 4 years of her life but that I'm going to get to help put together her dorm room. She's moving to her campus August 22nd and I'll be sure to give you all a big breakdown of what we deemed worthy of her dorm room. For now I'm loving this bold chevron print with accents of red and blue.
I was so excited to get home from the gym last night and see the new season Design Star pop up on my DVR. Last season was such a fun season and by the looks of it, this cast is going to clash so gloriously I can hardly stand it. (WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS)
Hello there! My name is Kara and my husband and I write the blog Kara Paslay Designs! Tim and I work together doing all sorts of interior design projects. I am the big picture girl and Tim is the detail guy and furniture builder. Our favorite projects include doing custom installations or building custom pieces, but unfortunately that's not always in the budget. When we are working with a smaller budget, there are a few tricks we like to use in order to make pieces feel a little more expensive or to make existing pieces work for us. One of those tricks is changing out furniture legs.
I have been drooling over the concept of having my very own frame gallery in my home. Whenever I have free time I find myself stuck on pinterest looking at the different types of frame galleries I could have, (follow me on pinterest!) Big empty frames, frames with paintings, frame galleries with pictures, frames that are the same color, frames that are multiple colors, the possibilities are endless! I've had a large collection of odd frames in a box under my bed for a least a year and they have sat there just collecting dust.. You have to understand one thing about me, I'm slow to decorate simply because I want to see if a trend will stick or if I still really have strong feelings towards a project after a couple of weeks. So I began by gathering up all my frames that I've had for months and choosing the ones I thought would work the best for my frame wall.
Furniture with function is always an easy decision. Let's be honest, when it comes to making a purchase and your stuck between an ottoman for $59.99 and an ottoman that has storage inside for $69.99 what are you going to pick? The one with storage inside right? The goal of a home furnishing designer (at least a good one) is create not only something beautiful but furniture that will serve multiple purposes. For instance the conception of this particular console table is not only to sit behind a couch with lamps on top of it looking pretty but also to provide storage.
Tall, dark, and rich...........slow down, I'm talking about coffee! Without my morning coffee I transform into this grouchy old bear of a woman, so every morning I wake up and make myself some tasty coffee with a french press coffee maker. It's perfect because it makes just one cup, and me and my roommate both drink a different coffee roast so the one-hit wonder french press is ideal for us. So I decided to beautify this one little area of my kitchen.
Although lamps and chandeliers have their practical purposes, I’m sure I’m not the only one who insists on having a lamp inside of a room that already comes with about three or four different light sources. And will you ever need that much light at once? Maybe not, but when you are looking to accent your home a bit, don’t underestimate the power of lamps and other lighting options - they make great accessories and really add to the overall design of your home. This may seem like a given, but when purchasing a lamp, choose one that has a shape, size, and color that compliments the design of your home. Avoid the temptation to purchase a lamp that can match pretty much any color scheme or design; choose one that really pops. Note: Also be careful not to go overboard or clash with the colors you have going on in your home. If there is already a lot of pop and flair going on in one particular room, you may be better off with a neutral-colored lamp.
