Not every project needs to be a huge undertaking. For me, I like to complete small projects when I can, it helps me feel productive, like I'm actually getting things done around the house. I try to keep in mind something I once read in a book called "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin. She makes a point to tackle tasks that take three minutes or less in her day-to-day life. I sort of apply that to DIY projects. If it will take less than an hour, why avoid it?

I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way: I hate carpet. An area rug here and there is one thing, but wall-to-wall carpet throughout the home (with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom, of course) has really started to drive me crazy. Our last place had hardwood floors, and I miss them dearly. We have already made a vow to never move into a place again with carpet. In the meantime, though, I just need to make the best of it and try to make it look as nice as I possibly can.
